Mrs Deli makes the stuff ... you eat all the stuff ... and then it’s gone ... until more stuff is made. When it’s gone, it’s gone ... that’s the way things go.
Sharply focused or blurred around the edges ... how’s your week finishing!? Mr and Mrs Deli are jaded. What’s with the busy weeks in February? Slow down everyone, you’ll peak too early! Celebrating Friday night with quince gin, a gorgeous gift from the gorgeous @noseyparkyn ... that’s what friends are for. One more sleep til the next small business day! Til then, quince gin is the answer.
Our job is to deliver great tastes and food stories ... the great tastes in this case come from a splendid Caerffili by @cawscenarthcheese Carwyn Adams is a second generation cheese maker who follows in the steps of the redoubtable Thelma ... famously, Thelma was paraded through the streets of Carmarthen in a bath of milk dressed as Cleopatra to draw attention to the parlous state of the dairy sector in the 1970s. The story doesn’t necessarily make the cheese taste better. It’s already an incredible product from Wales. But no point in taking the risk so you can have the story for free! Told in person if you make it to our cheese counter!
Cakes for cautious eaters who are terrified of the ‘weigh in’. Despite reassuring words that “cakes bought by friends have no calories” and “tartlets with fruit in are one of your 5-a-day” and “any cakes eaten on Valentine’s Day are NOT fattening” (FACT) ... our lovely customer would not have a whole one. Small but perfectly formed cakes are always available.
Here’s a thing. We get to work with our Valentines. We’re lucky like that. No idea what the pretty Irish girl sees in the annoying old beardy fella but glad there’s something. Still smiling and still hugging ... and not just on Valentine’s day. 📷 photo credit: @department_two
Mr and Mrs Deli are having a Board meeting. It’s a cheeseboard meeting. Cava with @foragefinefoods Honeysuckle and Tarragon Syrup will be drunk. Non-executive input from @petersyard @whitelakecheese @shropshiresalumi and @eastgatelarder will be inwardly digested. No Minutes will be taken. Which might be a bit of an issue as we also have a bottle of red from @ultracomida breathing for after the cava. Decisions, decisions ...
We used to serve soups. Soups for the soul. Great recipes from awesome folk like @thehappypear But we generally ‘serve what we stock’. Bit of a dilemma. We didn’t really stock soup ingredients. Then we found @nine_meals_from_anarchy a vegetable stock that actually contains mostly vegetables. Yep, you’d kinda think they all do ... but they don’t. These little beauties = 75% veg. So we use them. To make soup. Soup for the soul. Today, carrot, cashew and coriander. Packed full of vegetables! So, to recap, proper veg stock ... soup. That is all.
We tend not to get caught up in the rhythm of traditional retail. But even lovers need a nudge once in a while. And it’s apparently all kicking off on Thursday so we thought a couple of days notice would help. PS ... we have the chocolates! Hugs and chocolates are obviously available for lads to share with lads, lasses to share with lasses, lasses to share with lads ... among other love-filled and amazing combinations!
There was this thing. A fundraiser for @madaboutharrybanks Some utterly incredible people have raised money so a young lad can have the treatment he needs to give him a chance of a future. Incredible folk like @hotdogsfortea (check out that cheeseboard) @sytchfarmstudio just revel in Gill’s pottery @shropshiresalumi Will’s delicious charcuterie. Tom and Emma bottling their passion @pasoprimero We’re spending the evening eating and drinking, celebrating their craft and their collective generosity.
