Every year since 2008, The DO Lectures has combined Ideas + Energy to deliver Change
Speakers say what they DO … attendees are inspired to DO their thing. It’s not a conference, with conventions and name badges and company norms. The DO ‘spirit’ is wrapped up into something more like ‘an ideas festival’.
Capturing that same spirit, but in written form, is what The DO Book Co aims to do:
… recreate that same positive change in book form – whether that’s the mastery of a new skill or craft, a simple mindshift, or a shot of inspiration to help you get started
At The High Street Delicatessen, we love the simplicity of the DO Book Co back catalogue.
These are short books, written with passion and clarity, which focus on DOing, not wrapping readers up in swathes of theory. These books inspire readers to learn – and apply – new skills.
We stock just 4 titles, but they are those which can best be described as a recipe for ‘slow living’ – DO Sourdough, DO Grow, DO Bee-keeping and DO Preserve
You could argue that a delicatessen which stocks the finest raw Welsh honey from Coedcanlas, preserves and marmalades from Radnor Preserves and stunning locally-baked sourdough loaves from Andy’s Bread would be mad to offer people the means to make their own.
But we don’t see life that way! This is about inspiring people and connecting them with the food they eat. This is about nurturing an even greater appreciation of the producers; this is all about understanding the producers’ skill, patience and learning and experience.
We love the spirit of sharing that underpins the purpose and output of The DO Book Co. We are proud to play our small part in celebrating this spirit; slowing life down allows us to relish the moment and to understand more about the world we live in and what sustains us.
